HHS Mandate: Another Offensive Update

by Sarah Torre,

heritage.org

February 1, 2013

The Department of Health and Human Services today released an update of the agency’s “accommodation” to its own anti-conscience mandate under Obamacare. It is another sorry episode in a line of bureaucratic tweaking and unfulfilled promises that again fails to address the serious religious liberty problems caused by the coercive HHS mandate.

In short, only the precious few employers who are deemed religious enough by the Obama Administration would be afforded true protection of their religious freedom and the ability to live and act according to their beliefs.

HHS’s “notice of proposed rulemaking” does not change the coercive mandate that is currently forcing countless employers to provide and pay for coverage of abortion-inducing drugs, contraception, and sterilization in their employee health plans—regardless of moral or religious objection.

Instead, HHS feigns to [....]

ObamaCare Guarantees “personal Information” Will Cease To Be Personal

by (probably) Floyd Brown,

Being a good,Democrat-run state,Minnesota has decided to build an ObamaCare exchange, turning all healthcare rights and choices of its citizens over to the tender mercies of federal death panels and untrained,IT technicians in Washington,DC.

But if anything, that’s the GOOD news for unsuspecting Minnesotans! For all information currently considered “personal” will,at the stroke of a keyboard, become known to countless bureaucracies throughout the State and federal governments.

As the Citizen’s Council for Health Freedom explains it:

“Buried in the text of the Minnesota Obamacare Exchange bill (MNHIX) [is] a tiny but controversial section allowing free-flow sharing of all data the government has on you. It also grants them access to the data “other entities” have on you.  There is no limit to the agencies that can share data. There is no limit to the data that can be shared. There is no limit [....]

Dividends, Recessions and Records

by  ‘Political Calculations,’

February 5, 2013

After spiking to a level higher than those recorded during the so-called “Great Recession” in the month of December 2012 in response to President Barack Obama’s re-election and the corresponding guarantee of higher tax rates being imposed upon dividends, the number of publicly-traded U.S. companies acting to cut their future dividends remained elevated in January 2013.

Overall, some 44 companies acted to reduce their future dividend payments in January 2013 – well above the 10-per-month figure that would indicate that recessionary conditions are affecting the U.S. economy.

Taking into account the poor GDP performance of the U.S. economy in the fourth quarter of 2012, we should note that this indicator provided one of the earliest signals that the U.S. economy would be entering a period of near or outright contraction toward the end of 2012.

We do recognize however [....]

Stop Giving Money To American Crossroads Until [....]

by John Hawkins,

February 4, 2013

After American Crossroads frittered away 200 million dollars in the 2012 campaign cycle, mostly on ineffective TV ads, you’d think Karl Rove and his organization might be asking some tough questions about their strategy. But instead, they came to the same conclusion establishment Republicans always do: the problem is those darn conservatives.  So, Rove and company have created a spin off group to try to sandbag conservatives in primaries in order to make sure we’ll have a slate full of Charlie Christs and Arlen Specters in 2014. Student Debt Could Cripple Economic for Decades

by Sam Rolley,

Personal Liberty Digest

February 5, 2013

The price of a college education has been climbing at a substantially higher rate than inflation for years; meanwhile, the value of a college degree has been falling. That’s why thousands of debt-laden college graduates are facing the worst economic bust to plague the United States since the housing bubble burst.

A recent report from the Center for College Affordability and Productivity, entitled “Why Are Recent College Graduates Underemployed?”, refutes the oft-repeated theory that college educated Americans have the potential to earn substantially higher lifetime incomes than their uneducated peers. In fact, the report indicates that many college-educated Americans are woefully underemployed [....]

There are Reasons for Optimism

RUSH: Tyler in Lima, Ohio.  Hi, Tyler.  Great to have you here, sir.

CALLER:  Hey, Rush, mega dittos.  Thanks for taking my call.

RUSH:  Appreciate that.

CALLER:  I guess the main line of my call here in Lima, Ohio, is for Governor John Kasich, wanted to give kudos for Kasich. But then more specifically, I wanted to give kudos, I guess, more or less — I know the recovery isn’t quite where we want it to be, but just imagine where we would be without all of these Republican governors since 2010.  Every time I hear and I see Kasich on, and specifically he was over in Europe at a conference, I think the end of last year, the beginning of this year, and from what I do know while he was over at the conference he actually got to sit down and talk with several companies basically promoting the state of Ohio and the United States to bring some of their manufacturing over here.  When do you ever hear Obama or anyone else making the case for — [....]

The Japanese Investment that will [....]

This is the story of women and their pursuit of beauty.

Everywhere I alight in the world, I make time to visit local malls and shopping centers as part of my investment-research regimen. And I can report that, without question, emerging-market women share a love of cosmetics unrivaled by anyone except maybe the French.

True; they don’t have as much money to spend, but their passion for makeup is nonetheless equally intense. Every department store I stroll through, cosmetics counters are crammed with women – and sometimes a few men. I don’t mean a handful of ladies milling around, mind you. [....]

The wireless, always-on society that has become the norm in the 21st century offers boundless convenience in how we communicate, learn and store new information. The convenience of mobile technology also opens users up to privacy threats from government, criminals or any number of people with malicious intent.
